NANAIMO —A 21-year-old Nanaimo man is facing a murder charge in relation to the second homicide of 2022.

Simon James Baker was charged with one count of second degree murder after a woman was found dead in a Harewood home on Monday, June 20.

Police have identified the victim as 40-year-old Denise Allick of Victoria. It’s unknown why Allick was in Nanaimo on Monday nor has a link between her and Baker been established.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may know more about Allick’s movements prior to Monday night.

Mounties were called to a home at the end of Eighth St. near Park Avenue Elementary School around 10 p.m. in response to a disturbance call.

A deceased woman was found at the scene, and a short time later a male suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Baker remains in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Nanaimo on Wednesday, June 22.
