‘Share the trail:’ new signage appears on popular Nanaimo multi-use pathway
NANAIMO — Regular users of Nanaimo’s E&N Trail may have noticed more signage pop up during their regular commute.
The City recently installed information and stop signs at vehicle intersections along the popular multi-use trail, reminding users of speed limits for electric-powered devices and safe operation around others, as well as stop and dismount sign reminders for bicycle users.
Director of parks, recreation and culture Charlotte Davis said they wanted to draw users’ attention to be safe and courteous while cycling or using an e-scooter while on the trail.
“We want people to remember to share the trail, to slow down when they’re passing, and to make people aware of their presence. There are many more people who are operating e-bikes and e-scooters now, particularly on the E&N. Occasionally we hear from people when there’s been a near miss, or they’ve maybe felt a little bit taken by surprise by someone that was passing them.”
