NANAIMO — Several serious offences have been laid against a well-known former Alberta Junior Hockey League broadcaster.

Tyler Robb King, 39, is charged with three counts of luring a person under 18 years old, sexual exploitation of a young person and making child pornography, according to a Monday, Nov. 2 news release from Southern Alberta RCMP.

The release stated that in June 2024, an employee of the Okotoks Oilers Hockey Association reported to the RCMP that one of its former employees was soliciting and compensating players for intimate images and sexual videos.

“It was determined that the investigation involved multiple victims from Alberta and Saskatchewan, all minor league hockey players. The Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section was engaged in July of 2024 and took carriage of the investigation,” the release stated.

According to Southern Alberta RCMP, King was arrested in Landsdowne/Kingston, Ontario and was subsequently charged on Nov. 2.

King remains in custody and will be returned to Alberta to answer to the charges, stated police.

“The RCMP believes there could be more victims of King. If you believe you were a victim, please contact your local police.”

King held a relatively high profile in the AJHL, having served as a play-by-play broadcaster for several years in Fort McMurray, Brooks and Okotoks

He also previously worked for a junior hockey league team in Ontario, as well as a university in the United States, according to the RCMP.

In June 2024, the accused was hired as vice president of business operations, however he was quietly removed from the position later that same summer with no explanation from the club at the time.

The Clippers provided a statement on its website regarding the situation, stating the allegations against King did not relate to his time with the Clippers and that King had no contact with any of its players.

“After learning that he was the subject of an RCMP investigation, the organization and Mr. King parted ways and his employment ended. That decision was not a determination of the merits of the allegations,” the statement read.

The Clippers added it is not aware of any complaints regarding King’s contact during his brief time with the organization.
