NANAIMO — The Clippers will have two players representing the team at the BCHL’s all star weekend in January.

Defenceman Ethan Mistry was chosen through fan balloting to join previously selected teammate Kai Daniells.

Mistry was excited to be picked from a group of elite nominees from around the league.

“Thanks so much to everyone who voted to help me get to the game. I really appreciate the support. Nanaimo has one of the strongest fan bases in the league and I’m lucky to play in front of them.”

In his second season in the BCHL Mistry has been an offensive driver for the Clippers.

Entering the month of December the 19-year-old was tied as the top scoring defenceman in the BCHL with 24 points in 22 games.

Mistry said he has enjoyed being counted on in key situations by the coaching staff.

“I want to be on the ice in those big time moments and I want to be out there helping my team. Me and my partner Michael Craig feel like when we’re out there we are helping the team. Its been positive so far and our confidence is really high.”

The Toronto native showed both sides of his game in the Clippers most recent outings notching a goal and an assist in a 6-4 win in Powell River on Friday, Nov. 25 and playing a strong shutdown game a 4-2 road victory against Cowichan Valley two nights later.

Mistry and the Clippers return home after five straight away games to play the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday, Dec. 2 and the Merritt Centennials on Sunday.

The 3-on-3 all star weekend event is on Jan. 21 in Penticton.

CLIP NOTES:

The Clippers are seeking donations of children’s toys for the game against Chilliwack. The donated items will go directly to the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive.

On Dec. 3, Nanaimo will be celebrating the game will some players from the team’s past. A group of players from every era of Clippers hockey will be special guests for Alumni Night.

After five games in a row on the road the Clippers will play five of their final six games before Christmas at Frank Crane Arena.

Jake Hewitt is Nanaimo’s hottest offensive player currently. The veteran forward has seven points during a five game point streak.
