Vandals destroy ‘Crummy’ Speeder

Vandals have destroyed a 100-year old piece of Port Alberni history.

The yellow speeder car that once ferried fallers to logging areas around the valley was destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon at the Alberni rail yard.

Alberni Pacific Railway Operations Manager Richard Spencer says it was a disturbing act of arson.

“We could see clear as day on the cameras that there were people inside it and we could see them running away from the scene when the fire started,” he said. “I’m not just disappointed, I’m sick to my stomach seeing this.”
