NANAIMO — Several athletes from VIP Gymsports performed well at the recent Canadian Gymnastics Championships and Western Canada Cup events.

VIP trampoline head coach Megan Conway said she was extremely proud of everyone’s achievements.

“Our team has worked hard to make changes and upgrades that have led to our success. The season had its challenges with the goal of peaking at both championships. We executed the plan well, and it shows where we are headed in the future.”

At the Canadian Championships in Calgary, Taylor Pillinger won a tumbling bronze medal in her senior high-performance category.

Her score of 46.5 was a personal best and puts Pillinger in a strong position to qualify for the World Championships this November in Spain.

She will now represent Canada at the World Cup in Coimbra, Portugal in July before participating in the final trial for the World Championships in September.

In the 17 and over category, Brooklyn Stobbe reached the final and finished ninth in Level 5 tumbling.

She was one of four athletes chosen for Team BC, and helped earn a fourth-place standing in the team tumbling final.

Stobbe also finished fifth in Level 5 mixed synchronized trampoline along with teammate Owen Harbo.

Harbo took the bronze medal in Level 6 men’s tumbling and set two personal bests in the process.

In the team final, he landed a very difficult full rudi triple pike, becoming just the tenth person to land it in world competition.

His performance helped to secure a silver medal for Team BC.

At the Western Canada Cup in Winnipeg, 9-year-old Carter Mills won bronze on Level 2 double mini trampoline, picked up a fourth-place finish in trampoline and ended up seventh in tumbling.

Cylus Tisserand was chosen to represent Team BC and captured gold in Level 3 double mini trampoline, silver on trampoline and another silver in tumbling.

Tisserand also finished fourth all around and helped Team BC win gold in double mini trampoline and the overall team trophy.

Coach Conway is excited to see two of VIP Gymsports athletes take another step forward later in the year.

“Pillinger will be heading to Portugal in a few weeks to attend the Coimbra World Cup. She and Owen Harbo will work hard over the summer to improve on their performances and attend third trials in September. For all of our Level 1-5 athletes, they will work hard to improve technique, execution and difficulty over the summer and early fall.”
