Suspect in fatal highway crash arrested on ‘unrelated matters’
NANAIMO — A five-dayman hunt is now over.
RCMP confirmed on Wednesday, Sept. 2 they arrested the man believed to have caused a highway crash on Saturday, Aug. 29 which killed a Ladysmith mother of two.
“Late this morning, RCMP arrested the suspect on unrelated matters and he is in custody on Vancouver Island,” Cpl. Mike Halskov said in a written statement. “Police will not be disclosing his location or releasing his name, as charges have yet to be laid in relation to the fatal collision.”
Police originally spoke with the suspect at the scene of the crash before he allegedly stole a vehicle to escape.
