Clippers strike first with Game 1 win in BCHL Finals

May 15, 2026 | 10:37 PM

BROOKS — The Nanaimo Clippers put on a masterclass defensively and were opportunistic on offense in winning Game 1 of the BCHL Cup Finals.

The Brooks Bandits did get the opening goal from Harry Ahlberg on a power play but from there goalie Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau slammed the door shut.

Caden Okovita tied the game on a breakaway late in the first period and neither team could score in the second.

Just 38 seconds into the final period Hayden Fecher powered a shot by Brooks goalie Zach Zahara and Tanner Bruender capped off the scoring with an empty netter in the final minute.

Seguin-Lescarbeau and Zahara were the first and second stars of the game respectively with Nanaimo outshooting Brooks 37-32.

Landon Pappas had a strong game for the Clippers with assists on the first two goals.

Nanaimo finished 0/2 on the man advantage while going 1/2 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers have not trailed in any of their four series so far in the playoffs.

Team captain Will Subject was knocked out of the game late in the second period.

Nanaimo finished the game with only five defensemen and it’s not known yet if Subject will return for Game 2 on May 16.

The Clippers have won six consecutive hockey games dating back to Game 7 against Cowichan Valley in the finale of the second round.
