NANAIMO — Arrest warrants are piling up for a man facing serious charges for alleged offences in Nanaimo and Gabriola Island.

A Nanaimo judged issued arrest warrants for Heath Henry Handy, 50, on Tuesday, Jan. 25 for failing to appear in provincial court.

Henry faces six criminal code charges and a Motor Vehicle Act violation for alleged offences in Nanaimo and Gabriola Island in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Henry has made a habit of missing court dates.

Arrest warrants have been ordered on five separate occasions against Henry since November 2020, according to court records.

A December 2020 news release from Nanaimo RCMP stated Handy allegedly assaulted and threatened a woman over a 14 hour period after breaking into her Nanaimo home in June, 2020.

The victim who had dated Handy wasn’t seriously injured, according to police.

Handy was charged with five charges in relation to the June 4, 2020 incident, including break and enter and assault causing bodily harm.

Handy was scheduled to go on trial this week for the incident and a separate March 2020 assault charge.

Police have said Handy has family and friends throughout the central Vancouver Island area.
