NANAIMO — Warrants were again issued against a man who allegedly beat a woman in her home.

A Nanaimo judge issued an arrest warrant for Heath Henry Handy, 49, for failing to show up for a Thursday, Feb. 4 court appearance.

A Nanaimo RCMP news release on Dec. 22, 2020 stated Handy was wanted on several charges for allegedly assaulting and threatening a woman over 14 hours after breaking into her Nanaimo home in June, 2020.

The victim, who had dated Handy, wasn’t seriously injured in the incident according to police.

The Gabriola Sounder reported Handy was arrested on Gabriola Island without incident late on Christmas day following tips made to the detachment.

Court records showed Handy was released from custody the following day.

Handy is also charged with assault for an incident in Nanaimo in March, 2020, which also resulted in a new arrest warrant.

He’s described as Indigenous, six feet tall, weighing 210 pounds.

Police said Handy has family and friends throughout the central Vancouver Island area.
