Man dies following single-vehicle crash on Trans Canada Hwy south of Nanaimo

NANAIMO — A serious crash occurred on the Trans Canada Hwy. south of Nanaimo Monday claimed the life of a driver.

Nanaimo RCMP confirmed the driver, a male in his 60’s from the Nanaimo area, was declared deceased on scene.

The other occupant in the vehicle was uninjured in the single-vehicle rollover which ocurred at about 11:40 a.m.

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene to the critically injured person.

RCMP Cst Gary O’Brien said extended on-scene CPR by emergency responders was unsuccessful.

The incident closed northbound Trans Canada Hwy. traffic in the area, however impacted motorists are being detoured at Nanaimo River Rd. or through Cedar.

Northbound traffic through the section of highway remains closed as of 1:15 p.m., according to Drive BC.
