NANAIMO — Charles Beland continued his hot play but it wasn’t enough for the Clippers to beat the Coquitlam Express.

After the Express built up a 2-0 lead by the two minute mark of the second period Beland set up Miller Kay mid way through the middle frame and then scored on a net drive early in the third.

Despite both teams generating some good opportunities the scored stayed tied 2-2 until late in the contest.

In the game’s final minute Justin Ivanusec banged home a loose puck to give Coquitlam the 3-2 victory.

Miller Kay was also strong for the Clippers and also collected one goal and one assist.

Coquitlam’s other goals came from Chase Valliant and Nishaan Parmar.

Beland has now scored in all six Clipper games this season and his 10 points lead the team.

Nanaimo got a solid performance in goal from netminder Grayson Hanggi who made 24 stops in his first start of the year.

The final shots were 36-27 for the Clippers with both teams ending up 0/1 on the power play.

Nanaimo’s four game winning streak came to an end and they’ll look to get back to their winning ways on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in Chilliwack.

Both the Clippers and Chiefs enter the matchup with identical 4-2 records.
