Three Nanaimo Timbermen standouts chosen in NLL entry draft

NANAIMO — Draft day in the National Lacrosse League was special for the Senior A Nanaimo Timbermen.

Three players who just finished their first seasons in the WLA were drafted in the top 33 selections.

Right-hander Jeremy Wudrick went 27th overall to the Vancouver Warriors, while defender Joel Mullen was also picked by Vancouver at 32nd.

The 33rd player chosen was Nanaimo’s rookie of the year in 2026, Andrew Bowman, who is going to the Oshawa Firewolves.

Timbermen coach Jon Nicholson is pleased the work put in by all three has come to fruition.

“Full credit to all three for getting to where they are at. They all earned it. They put in the work on and off the floor, and I think they all ended up in really good spots.”

Wudrick and Mullen won’t be far away from the island, and Nicholson believes they will have a chance to be mentored by some solid veterans.

“There’s going to be a lot of guys they can lean on and learn from. Mullen was a second WLA all-star this year, and Wudrick is so good off ball. He can take it to the net too, but he’s so effective at moving bodies. They are both going to be really good assets at the next level.”

Bowman will be playing farther away in Oshawa, but there is a Timbermen connection on the team.

“He’s going to be playing for Glenn Clark, who also coached him in junior, so there’s going to be some familiarity there,” Nicholson said. “The way Andrew plays and thinks the game, I think he’s going to slot right in.”

Earlier in September, the T-men announced their team awards a fourth-place finish in the WLA in 2026.

Bowman was rookie of the year, and Mullen was selected as the team’s best defender.

Leading scoring Noah Manning won the MVP, Josh Gabriele collected the unsung hero award, and captain Colton Lidstone was named the most inspirational player.

The Timbermen had a heavy rookie presence last season, and Nicholson is excited to see how the group develops in 2027, especially after going through a learning experience in a first-round playoff loss to the Victoria Shamrocks.
