Candidate nomination period closes for 2026 Municipal Elections

Another 40 candidates submitted their nomination papers for one of eight City Councillor positions, including seven of the eight incumbents.

Only Tyler Brown opted not to seek another term at the Council table.

The City of Parksville will see two incumbent councillors and one new name running for the Mayor’s seat, with Mary Beil and Joel Grenz putting their names forward, alongside Mike Butler.

A further 10 names are under consideration for councillor positions, with six to be chosen by voters.

Four incumbents are among those seeking a term on Council.

Familiar names will be at the top of the ballot in the Town of Qualicum Beach, with incumbent Teunis Westbroek seeking re-election as Mayor while being challenged by former councillor and area MLA Adam Walker, along with Nessa Cymbalisty.

Three incumbent councillors are among the seven running to fill the other four seats at the Town’s Council table.

Some decisions voters were to make this October have already been made for them.

District of Lantzville Mayor Mark Swain is poised to run unopposed for his third term, with eight candidates for City Council to fill the other four seats at the table with him.

In the Regional District of Nanaimo, incumbents Jessica Stanley (Area A, Cedar/South Wellington), Vanessa Craig (Area B, Gabriola Island), Lehann Wallace (Area G, Dashwood/French Creek), and Stuart McLean (Area H, Deep Bay/Bowser) are also running unopposed.

A three-way race will happen in Area E (Nanoose), while two candidates are running in Area F (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington) and Area C (Extension, East Wellington)

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public School district will see 12 candidates vying for nine Trustee seats, with seven incumbents in the field.

The vote will be a little more fluid in Qualicum for SD69 with 15 on the ballot to fill five seats.

Candidates can withdraw their name from consideration up to Sept. 19.

Advance voting days are scheduled for all area jurisdictions on Oct. 7 and Oct. 14, ahead of General Voting Day on Oct. 17.
