His strong play helped Nanaimo to their first-ever playoff berth, although he had to leave the team prematurely because of a scheduling conflict with his US college team.

“He stayed longer than he was originally going to stay,” Andreychuk said. “The success he was having and how much better he felt at the plate, he wanted to continue that but he needed to go report to school. We had to swing a couple things and he ended up finished out the regular season. I really appreciate him sticking with it and it just shows the kind of human being he is and how much he enjoyed the summer and how much he enjoyed being a Nanaimo NightOwl.”

Coach Andreychuk applauded Reynolds commitment and is excited to see where his career goes from here.

Reynolds is expected to have a big year at school this coming season, Andreychuk added.

“He can hit. He can hit any level and against every kind of arm. I think he’s going to have a really big year at college, and I can’t wait to watch it. We’re working on trying to bring him back so hopefully we can have him in a NightOwls uniform next year.”

Just days after Reynolds’ departure, the NightOwls had their first-ever playoff appearance, winning their inaugural postseason game at Serauxmen Stadium before losing out to Bellingham with a pair of road losses.

Andreychuk said the experience was difficult to put in to words.

“Being a local guy I got a little emotional at the end of the game. It’s a full circle moment. I grew up playing there and to have that many people in the stands and seeing a game like that at Serauxmen in a playoff atmosphere on a walk off and we pull it off. It was something that you dream about as a little kid growing up in Nanaimo and seeing your career go in to coaching. Seeing the players and fans and how much it meant to them, it was a gratifying feeling to know that everything we’ve done as an organization was worth it in that moment.”
