Oceanside event highlighting local lives lost to drug toxicity
PARSKVILLE — A community gathering this weekend is looking to further educate the public on the real faces of the ongoing toxic drug crisis.
The Oceanside Community Action Team (OCAT), in partnership with Moms Stop the Harm, are hosting Hope in Action on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Parksville Community Park, an event in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.
Jamie Baird, coordinator with OCAT, said people will gather beginning at 4 p.m. to share stories, build community, and better educate everyone on the crisis and how they can help.
“There’s no one factor, there’s no one reason why people do this. There are many reasons: one of them is trauma, another one is mental health, another one is poverty, and another one is isolation.”
