Clippers sink Capitals in Larioza’s first game as captain

NANAIMO — Nathan Larioza will never forget his first night wearing the ‘C’ for the Clippers.

He scored his first career goal in his 67th game in Nanaimo and his team beat their division rivals from Cowichan Valley 4-1.

Larioza was named captain just a day before the game after ex-captain Carson Lesiuk was dealt to Powell River.

The team rallied around Larioza and got stellar netminding from Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau who was named first star with 33 saves.

Nanaimo had goals from Patrick Fortune and Jack Rimmer in the first period and Tanner Bruender tallied in the second.

Seguin-Lescarbeau was brilliant in the middle frame with 21 saves.

After Tristan Gravenor spoiled a Clipper shutout in the third period, Larioza sealed the game with an empty netter.

The Clippers were outshot 34-25 with both teams going 0-3 on the man advantage.

Nanaimo has won four straight games overall and all three games versus the Capitals this season.

The two teams will have a rematch Nov,. 8 at the Cowichan Valley Community Centre.
