Local wins national women’s amateur championship at Nanaimo Golf Club
NANAIMO — A well-known golfer with a winning pedigree lived up to her reputation at the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship staged this week at Nanaimo Golf Club.
Shelly Stouffer, 55, won the tournament by three strokes on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 28, marking the third time she has won the tournament for females fifty years old and up.
“I live so close, I live in Nanoose, so I’ve gotten to play about eight times (at Nanaimo Golf Club), just to get more familiar with the greens because I know they’re difficult here. One of the strongest parts of my game for this tournament was my putting, so it really helped me out,” Stouffer told NanaimoNewsNOW.
Stouffer led the tournament from the outset, posting an even opening round 72 on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the only golfer to not be over par in a field of about 140 golfers representing several countries.
