NANAIMO — The Clippers built up a 4-0 first period lead over Powell River and with a late push beat the Kings 6-3.

Cole Lonsdale opened the scoring 31 seconds into the game and Chase Hull had Nanaimo up 2-0 just 70 seconds into the contest.

The Kings swapped goalie Vincent Lamberti for Cooper Flemming but the Clippers added goals by Patrick Fortune and Connor DeTurris on a power play before the first period was over.

Powell River pushed in the middle frame with Wyatt Davis pulling the score to 4-1 before the intermission break.

By the time the third period was halfway through the Kings had come back to within 4-3 thanks to markers from Niccolo Mansueto and Jake Westhaver.

Reigning BCHL first star of the week Dylan Kinch scored off a faceoff with four minutes remaining to give Nanaimo some breathing room and then added an empty netter to salt away the victory.

The final shots were 34-32 for the Kings with Nanaimo going 1-7 on the man advantage and 2/2 killing penalties.

Goalie Chazz Nixon recorded his ninth win of the season in net.

The Clippers are now 4-0 versus the Kings on the season with a pair of head to head matchups on the horizon Jan. 24 and 25 in Powell River.

Nanaimo’s next game is Saturday Jan. 11 in Cowichan Valley at 7 p.m.
