BC Ferries preemptively cancels early Saturday sailings

Dec 13, 2024 | 4:04 PM

NANAIMO — Forecasted strong winds are leading BC Ferries to proactively cancel some weekend crossings between the Island and Lower Mainland.

A wind warning remains in effect for most of eastern Vancouver Island, with BC Ferries scrapping the 6:15 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. sailings from Departure Bay on Saturday, Dec. 14, along with the corresponding crossings from Horseshow Bay at the same time.

Customers with reservations on those trips will receive a notice from BC Ferries customer service to either re-book on a different sailing or offer a refund.

Environment Canada is forecasting southeast wind speeds upwards of 70 kilometres per hour for the Nanaimo region on Saturday morning, gusting to upwards of 100 kilometres per hour.
