NANAIMO — Police say a 58-year-old man was stabbed in the public washrooms at Maffeo Sutton Park Wednesday morning.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade said the victim, a City of Nanaimo staff member, told officers he was attacked by two men in the washrooms at the park, around 10 a.m.

She added in a statement the worker was stabbed “with syringes” and “suffered wounds to his face and abdomen”.

It’s unclear what led to the altercation.

Police are now searching for two Caucasian men, with one described as 5’10” tall with a red beard, wearing a red coat, jeans and a large medallion around his neck.

The second man had dark hair, was wearing dark clothes and sustained facial injuries during the attack on the worker.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345, quoting file number 2024-40115.

The City of Nanaimo say they’re supporting the investigation and the victim.

“The City can confirm that an employee was injured at Maffeo Sutton Park this morning. While it is a personnel matter, we can tell you that the employee was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and is being assessed by doctors. We have arranged a City representative to stay with the employee,” stated the City’s general manager of Engineering and Public Works Bill Sims.
