NANAIMO — A large crowd of Nanaimo and Ladysmith elementary school students took in the Clippers School Day Game against the Bulldogs.

They were treated to sixty plus minutes of exciting hockey but the home side lost out 6-5 in overtime.

After a scoreless first period Luke Buss and Samuel Boisvert gave Nanaimo a 2-0 lead early in the middle frame.

The teams traded goals the rest of the second with Gus El-Tahhan and Brett Merner on a power play scoring for the Clippers and Nicholas Beneteau and Hayden Stavroff collecting goals on the Bulldogs man advantage.

Joel Plante opened a 5-2 Nanaimo lead 42 seconds into the final period but the Bulldogs scored three goals from Jax Wismer, Braden Blace and Fischer O’Brien in a span of eight minutes to force overtime.

Despite a Clippers power play in OT the Bulldogs Blace scored his second goal of the game for the 6-5 win.

Nanaimo finished 1/5 on the man advantage and 2/5 killing penalties.

They sit with an 0-3-1 record against the Bullogs with three games left in the series, all in November.

The Clippers next action is Saturday Nov. 4 at home to the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 7 p.m.
