Clippers lose battle of special teams 5-2 in Powell River

POWELL RIVER — In a game with 17 combined power plays the Clippers lost 5-2 to the Kings.

The Kings went 5/9 on the man advantage while the Clippers finished 1/8.

Powell River never trailed building up a 2-0 first period lead before Brett Merner narrowed the score on a Nanaimo man advantage.

It was 3-1 in the middle frame before Andrew Brown scored on a delayed penalty to get the Clippers within one again.

The Kings led 4-2 after 40 minutes and scored the only goal of the final period.

Anthony Yu had four assists for the Kings while Alexi Van-Houtte Cachero and Will Jones had a goal and two assists each.

The final shots were 39-37 for the Clippers with Owen Crudale taking the win over the Clippers Tyler Hodges.

Nanaimo now holds a 2-1 record against Powell River in the season series.

They will take a 4-3-1 record into their next game on Thursday Oct. 19 on the road against Cowichan Valley.

The Clippers return home Oct. 20 to face the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
