NANAIMO — Unseasonably high temperatures throughout much of the province have seen a number of local temperature records broken.
Preliminary data from Environment Canada shows Nanaimo set a new daily high temperature record for July 22, when the mercury reached 34.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, breaking the old mark of 33.3 set in 1994.
Records have been kept in the Nanaimo area since 1892.
Qualicum Beach Airport, where records date back to 1962, also set a new benchmark for the day, with temperatures reaching 33.1 degrees, besting the previous 2006 mark of 31.
