Fatal Whiskey Creek house fire under investigation

WHISKEY CREEK — One person died after a fire ripped through a small home in rural Whiskey Creek.

Local fire departments and Oceanside RCMP responded to the Marples Rd. home at Winning Way on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 1 a.m.

Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Shane Worth said the deceased was found on scene once the fire was put out.

“At this point we are working with the BC Coroners Service and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to determine the cause of the fire and to determine the cause of the person’s death.”

Worth said Oceanside RCMP officers are temporarily securing the scene until a fire investigator arrives.

The impacted small wooden structure was destroyed in the fire, with the aftermath including a collapsed roof.

Numerous local fire departments responded to the incident located southeast of Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.

In a Friday, Feb 24 news release Oceanside RCMP stated their was no criminality involved in the fire and that the investigation is being handled by the Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Dept.
