Second and final advance voting opportunity opens Wednesday

NANAIMO — The second of two advance voting opportunities for upcoming General Local Elections takes place province-wide on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Voters electing local councils and school boards for the next four years must be 18-years of age as of general voting day, be a Canadian citizen and resident of British Columbia for at least six months. An eligible voter must also be a resident of the community where they are voting.

City of Nanaimo:
Advance voting takes place at Beban Park Social Centre at 2300 Bowen Rd. on Wednesday Oct. 12 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, Nanaimo broadcaster Tod Maffin has produced a podcast series containing feature interviews with all four Mayoral candidates and 19 of the 29 Council candidates running in the 2022 election.

Regional District of Nanaimo:
Advance voting takes place at five venues throughout the RDN, with all RDN voters having the option to mark their ballots at the Regional District of Nanaimo administration building at 6300 Hammond Bay Rd.

Advance voting takes place at Costin Hall at 7232 Lantzville Rd.

City of Parksville:
Advance voting takes place at Parksville Community Centre at 132 Jensen Ave. East

Town of Qualicum Beach:
Advance voting takes place at Qualicum Beach Civic Centre at 747 Jones St.

Town of Ladysmith:
Advance voting takes place at Ladysmith City Hall at 410 Esplanade

People who are not on a voters list can register immediately prior to voting. At least two pieces of identification are required to register, including one which includes the person’s signature. ID should prove residency.

General voting day throughout the province take place on Saturday, Oct. 15, which involves polls open between 8 a.m and 8 p.m.
