Kids & ‘kids at heart’ ready for annual Nanaimo soapbox derby
NANAIMO — Final preparations are being put on dozens of entries ahead of this year’s Hub City Soapbox Derby.
The annual race will take place down Wall St. in Nanaimo, beginning around 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, and see nearly 40 kids and several other “kids at heart” compete in two divisions, all in support of the Nanaimo Child Development Centre.
Organizer Jason Clayton said 35 entries were registered as of late this week in the stock division.
“The stock division are those that utilize a kit that is supplied to them as part of their registration. Those are usually youth between the ages of six and 16. We actually have quite a few more of our big kids or open division this year, those are folks aged between 16 and 60 years of age…a lot of those folks are kids at heart.”
