NANAIMO — The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved a driving-related charge against a Nanaimo RCMP officer.

Cst. Elie Mohsen faces a single count of driving without reasonable consideration for others under the Motor Vehicle Act following an incident involving a police cruiser and a motorcycle on Sep. 3, 2021.

Mohsen was on shift supporting Ladysmith RCMP at the time of the incident, which involved officers trying to pull over a motorcycle on Morden Rd. just after midnight.

It had previously been spotted travelling at a high rate of speed and running a nearby red light on the highway.

Police said at the time the motorcycle, ridden by a man with a female passenger, went into the ditch as part of the police effort to stop them.

The man, who had a driving prohibition, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in Victoria while the woman was treated and quickly released from Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Details of any specific action by Mohsen during the incident are not known and the charge against the officer has not been proven in court.

Charges were officially sworn in on Thursday, Sep. 1. She will appear in court later this month.
