Near record prize pool on offer through Friday Lotto Max draw

Jun 3, 2022 | 9:12 AM

NANAIMO — The odds are infinitesimal, but the lure of luxury is sometimes too tough to pass up.

The Friday, June 3 Lotto Max draw is offering a jackpot near the record highs reached 12 months prior, with a maximum $70 million jackpot plus an estimated 43 additional $1 million prizes.

Matt Lee with BCLC said the huge amounts of money on offer draw in people who don’t regularly play.

“When you do see the Lotto Max jackpot grow up to that $70 million maximum number, you do see a little bit of lottery fever, lottery buzz happening around British Columbia. Players who are maybe not your every day lottery players, they do tend to be those casual players who will buy a ticket.”

Jackpots soared in June 2021 after a run of several weeks without a winner.

The June 12, 2021 draw saw a record $128 million in prizes on offer including the maximum $70 million jackpot plus 58 additional prizes.

If no-one claims a win Friday night, it’s possible the record would be broken for the next draw on Tuesday, June 7.

Regardless of when the jackpot is won, when it does it will be almost unthinkably lucky.

“In terms of the Lotto Max prize, the odds of winning the jackpot are one in approximately 33,000,000,” Lee said. He added the odds of winning a Maxmillions prize are tough to quantify because it depends on the number of tickets sold.

The Nanaimo region is as good as any to purchase a ticket in.

Tickets purchased in the Harbour City have won over 20 prizes worth $500,000 or more since 2012.

Those wanting to get a ticket for Friday’s draw must do so before 7:30 p.m. local time.
