Man drowns after Sunday evening swim at Long Lake

NANAIMO — Local search and rescue crews recovered the body of a man who is believed to have drowned in Long Lake.

Nanaimo RCMP say the man was seen swimming toward the north end of Long Lake in the evening of Sunday, May 22 but did not return to his room at the Inn on Long Lake.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the family reported him missing the following morning when he was still not back.

“Search and Rescue launched their vessel in the lake in the area where the individual was last seen and within about five minutes, they found the deceased man.”
