Clippers ride hot power play to 4-2 win over Grizzlies

NANAIMO – The Clippers won all three of their preseason home games after beating the Victoria Grizzlies 4-2 on Oct. 1.

Max Itagaki scored the only goal of the first period converting a Jeremie Payant pass with three minutes remaining.

In the middle frame the Clippers used their power play to build up a 3-0 advantage.

Andrew Noel sniped home a one timer on a five on three and Ethan Mistry scored 47 seconds later on a five on four situation.

Before the end of the middle frame Eli Barnett beat Cooper Black to get the Grizzlies on the board.

Noel scored a carbon copy of his second period tally, and also two men up, when he drilled a one timer behind behind Kyle Kelsey to open up a 4-1 Nanaimo advantage halfway through the third.

A late power play marker by the Grizzlies Andrew Amousse capped off the scoring.

Victoria outshot Nanaimo 43-39 with the Clippers finishing 3/6 on the power play and 4/5 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers overall record is 3-2 in exhibition play with one more preseason game Oct. 2 in Victoria.

Opening night of the 2021-22 season for Nanaimo is Oct. 8 in Powell River with the Clippers hosting the Kings a week later on Oct. 15 in their home opener.
