Prolific Nanaimo property offender wanted, again

NANAIMO — One of Nanaimo’s most persistent and prolific thieves is once again a wanted man.

A provincial court judge issued an arrest warrant for Peter Jonathan Cameron Ludvigson, 50, on Monday, July 6 after he no-showed for court.

More than a dozen criminal code charges have been laid against Ludvigson since last fall for alleged offences in Nanaimo, including five theft charges, mischief, driving offences and sexual assault.

A separate arrest warrant was issued against Ludvigson on June 9 after he failed to appear in court.

He later appeared before missing his most recent scheduled appearance.

While wanted for several alleged crimes, Ludvigson turned himself in to the Nanaimo RCMP in April, less than 24 hours after police issued a widely publicized news release for his capture.

However, Ludvigson was released, and court records show he allegedly committed theft, resisted arrest and three driving offences on May 9, 11 and 27.

Complying with police-issued release conditions and court-mandated appearances has been a longstanding issue for Ludvigson.

He is described by Nanaimo RCMP as Caucasian, standing 5’11” and weighing around 210 pounds, balding, with brown eyes and several tattoos.

Described previously by a Crown prosecutor as a relentless offender, Ludvigson is well known to retailers, particularly in the Nanaimo area.

He has more than 50 theft-related criminal code convictions, primarily involving thefts from retailers, including several local big-box stores.

His criminal record dates back to the early 1990s as a Nanaimo-area youth.

Prior sentencing hearings outlined Ludvigson’s significant criminal record and longstanding substance misuse issues, which he has been hesitant to address.

Ludvigson has a scheduled arraignment hearing on Tuesday, July 14, at the Nanaimo Law Courts.
