Junior A Timbermen name coaching staff ahead of season

NANAIMO — The Junior A Timbermen reached all the way to Albany to bolster their coaching staff.

Albany FireWolves coach and general manager Glenn Clark will coach the Jr. Tmen in 2022 and the western scout of the National Lacrosse League team Julian Kolb will serve as a defensive coach.

Timbermen president Chris Bowman had Clark at the top of his list to fill the role.

“Our drive and push is obviously to win a Minto Cup championship. It didn’t take a lot of convincing after he looked through the roster and watched a few of the games.”

For Clark the move is partly about lacrosse but also a chance to enjoy some time in western Canada with his family.

“I retired from teaching a couple of years ago and my wife and I discussed the ability to turn lacrosse into some lifestyle opportunities. When Chris (Bowman) reached out and started explaining the program and the opportunity for success it was a nice fit.”

Julian Kolb will coach the defense and jumped at the chance to work with Clark in the same place he spent part of his career as a player.

“It was a bit of a homecoming for me. I played with the Nanaimo Timbermen in the past and got to know the Nanaimo lacrosse community. Having the opportunity to come back and to work with Glenn was something too good to pass up.”

The Timbermen haven’t had a full time coach since Dave Bremner stepped down during the COVID-19 break which wiped out the 2020 season.

Senior A defender Mason Pynn ran the bench in 2021 and guided the team to a league best 6-2 record and a 2-1 win in their lone island playoff series versus Victoria.

Pynn will resume playing for the Senior A Timbermen full time in 2022.

The BCJALL is expected to return to a full schedule next year for the first time since 2019.

The season is expected to begin in April or May of 2022.
