Outbreak declared over at LongLake Chateau in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — The most recent outbreak at a Nanaimo care home is now over.

Island Health announced on Tuesday, April 20 the outbreak at the Longlake Chateau independent living facility is over.

“There are no longer any COVID-19 cases related to the outbreak at the facility,” a notice from the health authority said.

A total of eight COVID-19 cases were found through initial and followup testing, with the first case discovered on March 25.

The facility is operated by Atria Retirement Canada.

Island Health’s chief medical health officer Dr. Richard Stanwick told reporters the cases found were mild, thanks to the mitigating effects of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Social visits, admissions and transferred at Longlake Chateau resume today, April 20.

The other outbreak in Nanaimo is at NRGH within the High Intensity Rehab Unit.
