PARKSVILLE — A long-dreamed of outdoor theatre in downtown Parksville will hopefully have a world class sound.

Construction on the theatre is expected to start this summer and finish by the end of 2021.

Cheryl Dill, president of the Parksville Beach Festival Society, told NanaimoNewsNOW they’re now turning their attention to the equipment within the theatre.

A $40,000 grant from the BC Arts Council covers much of the cost for equipment, including the speakers, lights, choir risers and rollout dance floor for the wide variety of performers expected to use the stage.

“Groups of all types and ages will have the ability to have the basics in place and not transport essential elements needed to perform at the outdoor theatre,” Dill said.

The Society is continuing to fundraise to reach the $60,000 goal, with a campaign led by entertainment director Lloyd Derry.

With the $1.2 million goal achieved for construction of the theatre, Dill said they’re optimistic about quickly reaching the new goal for equipment.

“We’re moving along quite nicely.”
