BC Ferries introduces new fares for Nanaimo to Lower Mainland sailings

NANAIMO — BC Ferries is making travel between central Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland a little more affordable.

The company recently unveiled new fare choices on three routes including both Tsawwassen to Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay.

Fares for select sailings on the routes will drop to around $49 by the spring. Under the new fee structure, the same fare costs $73.70.

Discounts are available on select routes including early morning or late evening sailings, midday crossing during the week and trips on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

The new fares are designed to coax travellers with flexible plans away from congested or overloaded sailings.

“Our routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island account for about 60 per cent of overall ferry traffic,” Mark Collins, BC Ferries’ president said in a press release.

Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay near Victoria is also included in the plan.

All three routes are not included in the company’s Experience Card program which offers discounts upwards of 25 per cent on minor routes.
