NANAIMO — Island Health ended the week with relatively lower counts of new COVID-19 cases.

Island Health announced 14 new cases on Friday, Jan. 22. This was the lowest announced by Island Health throughout the week.

The record-setting 43 new cases the day before boosted Island Health’s rolling three day average to a new high of 95 cases. It dropped down to 78 with Friday’s new cases.

To date, there’s been 1,385 COVID-19 cases found within Island Health with 194 currently active.

There is a data discrepancy between Island Health and the BC CDC, based on the timing of COVID-19 results. NanaimoNewsNOW reports the Island Health confirmed data.

Across B.C., 508 new cases were discovered. The number of hospitalizations and those receiving intensive care dropped slightly.
