Island Health suffers worst weekend yet during COVID-19 pandemic
NANAIMO — Last weekend saw the highest amount of cases for Island Health in a weekend so far during the pandemic.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed on Monday, Jan. 11, 59 new cases were found during the three day weekend reporting period. This is the highest number of new cases confirmed over a weekend reporting period in the Island Health region.
The previous worst weekend was with 58 new cases detected at the end of November.
Island Health data shows there’s currently 186 active COVID-19 cases within the health authority, with 117 found in the central Island region. There is a data discrepancy between Island Health and public health figures, with Island Health showing 58 new over the weekend reporting period, not 59.
