Man shot at north Nanaimo home, another man arrested

NANAIMO — A man was arrested for allegedly shooting another man at a Malpass Rd. home off Metral Dr. in Nanaimo’s north end Sunday afternoon.

RCMP say it happened at 3 p.m.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said the victim suffered life threatening injuries but is considered stable after undergoing emergency surgery at Nanaimo Hospital.

“There’s no public concern,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW “The victim is well known to us and the person arrested at the scene is known to us as well.”

O’Brien said the alleged shooter returned to the home shortly after and was arrested.

He said there were multiple witnesses to the shooting.

“Evidence led us to a second undisclosed location, that home was secured overnight and we’re currently preparing a search warrant to go in and search for evidence related to the shooting.”

Police are not searching for additional suspects or victims.
