New outdoor stage at Parksville Community Park turns from dream to reality

PARKSVILLE — The popular Beach Festival every summer in Parksville will soon be expanding.

A long-sought after outdoor theatre and new gathering space in Parksville Community Park are now fully funded with nearly $1.3 million confirmed from the federal and provincial governments.

Cheryl Dill, president of the Parksville Beach Festival Society, told NanaimoNewsNOW hearing the good news made herself and Society directors “do a dance of joy.”

“It was a very important moment for the Parksville Beach Festival Society to receive the fantastic news of the funding. We’re just tickled to work with a community and the City of Parksville on this initiative.”

Dill said the Society and volunteers have saved as much money as possible and fundraised to build momentum behind the idea of having an outdoor theatre.

“The Parksville Beach Festival Society is all about summertime fun along the beautiful Parksville beach. When you have this type of asset that will draw even larger amounts of visitors and residents to our community, the social and economic impact is going to be very positive for Vancouver Island.”

Though the outdoor gathering space will be a separate facility operated by the City of Parksville, Dill said it and the outdoor theatre will work in tandem to bring more people to the Parksville Community Park.

“Any kind of facility in the park that allows people to gather, celebrate and create amazing memories, which is what both of these projects will do, are two additional assets for the community.”

Construction on the outdoor stage is expected to begin this fall and be complete by June 2021.

The outdoor gathering area is anticipated to be ready by spring 2022.
