Oceanside RCMP recover ‘staggering’ $30,000 stolen property stash after local B&E’s

PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP have arrested two people and confiscated a substantial amount of stolen items following a recent investigation.

Police caught up to a 47-year-old man and a 42-year-old female partner on Thursday, June 18 at a trailer park in Parksville and recovered over $30,000 worth of stolen property.

It capped a two week span with higher than normal volume of break and enters in Parksville and Nanoose Bay. A combination of tips from the public, surveillance footage and evidence collected helped police narrow their search.

“At one of the crime scenes, we did get some forensic information that led us to an arrest at the trailer court and subsequent applications for warrants and a whole bunch of recovered stolen property,” Cpl. Jesse Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Included in the stolen items were two stolen vehicles, motorcycles, a firearm, bicycles and tools. Since recovering the items, most have been returned to their owners.

Foreman added receiving tips from the public was key to the investigation, with most of the recent spike in break and enters now attributed to this couple.

“In this case it came in as a suspicious vehicle, people who looked out of place. There were a few different people who took the time to call us about that, provide good descriptions and provide a vehicle description.”

The man and woman are both known to police, however had only recently moved to the region. Police said they’re former residents of Victoria and Vancouver.

Several charges are expected to be laid. The man remains in custody and faces multiple charges including break and enter.

His female partner was arrested for breaching court ordered conditions and was released from custody on several more conditions ahead of a later court date.
