Island Health open referral-only COVID-19 screening clinic in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — The second referral-only COVID-19 screening clinic on Vancouver Island is now open in Nanaimo.

Island Health began taking appointments at the clinic on Wednesday, March 18.

The clinic is for people requiring a COVID-19 test and who have been directed to the clinic by their doctor or an 8-1-1 nurse.

Priority is being given to those who meet certain criteria, including health care workers, residents of long-term care facilities, hospitalized or likely to be hospitalized individuals and those part of a cluster or outbreak in the community.

Those who believe they may require a COVID-19 test can contact 8-1-1 or their doctor to be assessed. Once referred, a nurse at the clinic will assess referred patients to determine whether a test needs to take place.

Further clinics will continue to be set up on Vancouver Island in response to the growing pandemic.

On Tuesday, March 17, the BC Government announced 83 new cases of COVID-19, including five on Vancouver Island.
