Scardina nets OT winner in Clippers 2-1 over Kings

NANAIMO – Ethan Scardina saved his best for last.

The Clippers captain had the overtime winner plus an assist in the Clippers 2-1 victory over Powell River.

The game was scoreless through the the first period with both Jordan Naylor and the Kings Derek Krall playing well.

Devin Leduc rifled a shot past Naylor in the first 90 seconds of the second period to give Powell River a lead that they would take into the third.

Scardina fed Brandon Dent at the goalmouth just over two minutes into the period to even the game and force overtime.

At the 1:37 mark Scardina converted a Kyler Kovich pass to give the Clippers the win and keep the chase for first place in the Island Division still alive.

Nanaimo is five points behind Cowichan Valley with three games remaining.

The Clippers also won the season series against the Kings 5-3. Nanaimo won all four games at home, and took one of four at the Hap Parker Arena.

Nanaimo is in Alberni Valley on Feb. 19 for their next game.

They have a 4-1-0-1 record against the Bulldogs this year.
