EARLIER — Concern is mounting for a man missing in the Chase River area with multiple sclerosis and significant personal issues.

Police say Cortney Latoski, 51, was last seen Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 11:30 a.m. at Southgate Shopping Centre. He didn’t return to his nearby home by 3 p.m.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said an extensive search for Latoski headed by Nanaimo SAR overnight came up empty.

A large contingent of Nanaimo SAR personnel and some Nanaimo RCMP members returned to the area Wednesday morning, with a command post established in the Rona parking lot.

“They’re concentrating their search on the Maki Rd. area from Southgate Mall eastward toward the Living Forest Campground, along the shoreline and through any forested area.”

O’Brien said Latoski is known to hike for several hours in the area where crews are searching.

Latoski is white, stands 5-foot-11, with a slim build.
