Nov 3, 2026 | 6:03 PM

Democrat Wes Moore won election Tuesday as governor of Maryland, defeating Republican Dan Cox. Moore was seeking a second term. Elected as Maryland’s first Black governor in 2022, Moore is considered a potential contender for the White House in 2028. Moore, a combat veteran, was a Rhodes scholar, author and former CEO of an anti-poverty nonprofit before becoming governor. Cox, a lawyer and former state lawmaker, also lost to Moore in 2022. The Associated Press declared Moore the winner at 8:01 p.m. EST.
