Twin City wins ‘Canada’s Best Beer’

Port Alberni is now the Beer Capital of Canada after Twin City Brewery was given the “Best Beer in Canada” Award at the Canadian Craft Brewers top awards in Calgary last night.

Twin City won for their Tickety Boo beer – a British style pale ale that has been their most popular and most constant beer since opening almost a decade ago.

Twin City owner Aaron Colyn said judges from around the world selected ‘Tickety Boo’ as Canada’s best beer, out of more than 1900 other entries.

“After trying all the gold medal beers, they decided that this one was the one that they thought represented the best in show and so we were awarded the best beer in Canada from 1900 entries, coast to coast,” he said.

Colyn says he has been asked to make ‘Tickety Boo’ and his other beers available across Canada, but maintains Twin City’s philosophy of bringing people to the brewery and to Port Alberni.

“I’m born and raised in Port Alberni and I love Port Alberni, and we get to now for the next year say that the home of Canada‘s best beer is here in Port Alberni BC and that’s something that means a lot to me,” he said.

Colyn said BC breweries captured more than half of the National awards at the ceremony in Calgary last night, thanks to quality of coastal water, and the strength of the province’s craft beer industry.

Two years ago, Twin City was recognized as BC’s best brewery for the second consecutive year.
