Nanaimo senior killed after being hit by SUV on Departure Bay Rd.
NANAIMO — A man in his late 70s standing on the side of Departure Bay Rd. died after he was hit by an SUV late Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Departure Bay. Rd. at Argyle Ave. just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, to reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle between Argyle and Strongitharm Ave.
Nanaimo RCMP Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said the man was hit while standing next to his vehicle parked on the side of Departure Bay Rd.
“The road was closed for some time, our members were able to talk to various people, including the driver, who cooperated with investigators. Alcohol was ruled out, speed was ruled out, weather was ruled out, so it’s an ongoing investigation.”
