‘Take ownership:’ safe spring driving and motorcycle awareness focus of May campaign
NANAIMO — Warmer weather means vacations, road trips, and motorcycles on mid-Island roads, and driving enforcement officers want to make sure everyone gets home safely.
May is high-risk driving and motorcycle awareness month, and the BC Highway Patrol is reminding all drivers just because the temperatures are increasing, speed limits on highways are not.
“Watch out at intersections, and watch out on the highways. High-risk driving is anything that can kill you on the roads, so we’re asking you to re-focus,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Slow down, give yourself some extra time to get where you’re going and watch out for those smaller, riskier vehicles on the road so you’re not part of a tragedy.”
McLaughlin said it’s especially important during the warmer months for drivers to be completely focused on the road, as an increase in vehicle traffic paired with road construction or weather-related delays can cause frustration, but safety must be their key focus.
