Clippers stun Capitals with 2-0 road lead in second round series

DUNCAN — The Clippers have taken both of the first two games in their second round playoff series with the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Despite trailing 2-0 in Game 2 Nanaimo came back to win 5-3.

The Capitals made a strong first period push in the second game getting first period markers from Adam Lang and Trace Frieden.

The Clippers came out storming in the middle frame and took the lead on goals by Sam Boisvert on a power play, Drew Roelofs pulled off a spinning backhand and Indiana Grossbard converted on a one timer.

In the series the Clippers have outscored the Capitals 5-0 in second periods.

Nanaimo upped their lead to 4-2 in the third when Finn Kallay scored his first goal as a Clipper.

Although Anthony Hall sniped a goal back for the Capitals, Patrick Fortune put the game away with a late breakaway tally.

Eliot Seguin-Lesarbeau got the win over Rhett Stoesser in net with the shots finishing 31-28 in Nanaimo’s favour.

Seguin-Lescarbeau and the Clippers both have a 6-1 record in the post season.

The Clippers finished 1/2 on the power play and killed off their only penalty against.

Nanaimo has been shorthanded only twice in the entire series.

The series shifts to Frank Crane Arena for Games 3 and 4 on April 21 and 22.
