NANAIMO —The Clippers have a new look for the upcoming BCHL season.

Orange, black and white will continue to be the team’s primary colours but the Clippers have a brand new logo and will also sport a new jersey design.

Coach and general manager Colin Birkas said he and the players are excited about this new modern look.

“It takes a lot of inspiration from our history. It is the first of many things we’re doing to try to make the Clippers a top-end organization that everyone else looks to.”

The Clippers’ previous logo came into being in 1997 and will be remembered fondly as the jersey worn by the team during historic events like the 1998 RBC Cup in Nanaimo and the Clippers BCHL title runs of 2004 and 2007.

New primary and secondary logos were put together by Nanaimo-based Pedestrian Studio with the aim of honouring the history of the Clippers and the city of Nanaimo.

Both the primary ‘N’ logo and the secondary boat anchor shield include a navy bravo flag and a stylized wave to represent the Nanaimo waterfront.

The shield also makes reference to the Nanaimo Bastion, the city’s early coal mining industry and parts of the City of Nanaimo’s official flag.

The ‘N’ will be the Clippers primary logo while the anchor shield will act as a secondary logo. (Nanaimo Clippers)

In August the Clippers will unveil their new jerseys with three different looks expected in the colours of orange, black and white.

Nanaimo will open their BCHL campaign on the road in Port Alberni on Friday, Sept. 20 and fans get to see the Clippers at home for the first time on Friday, Sept. 27 versus Chilliwack.
